Guidelines for Becoming a Certified Trainer of Instrumental Enrichment

Requirements:

  1. Prospective Trainers must complete training in all three levels of Instrumental Enrichment (IE) and must be certified by ICELP to teach all three levels of (IE). This training can be taken at any Authorized Training Center (ATC), or at any Workshop authorized by the International Center for the Enhancement of Learning Potential (ICELP).
  2. Prospective Trainers must then complete two levels of "Trainers" classes.
This training must be taken at an ICELP workshop. Candidates must be recommended by the Director of an ATC or other appropriate individuals, and must be able to furnish evidence of experience with teaching IE.

Recommendations:

The following guidelines are offered particularly for those associated with the Southeastern Center for the Enhancement of Learning (SCEL), but would be appropriate for anyone seeking certification as a trainer.

  1. Ideally, each level of training should be followed by implementation of IE either in a classroom or small group setting.
However, because of the difficulty of scheduling training--particularly for those who must travel long distances--it is often advantageous to take two levels of training consecutively. (It is NOT recommended, however, that any participant attempt to take all three levels consecutively.)
  2. All three Levels of IE training are offered at SCEL. However, even if all three levels are taken with us, it is our recommendation that all three levels NOT be taken with the same trainer.
To that end adjunct Trainers are periodically scheduled to conduct training at SCEL.
  3. It is strongly recommended that each person who takes training to teach IE attend at least one ICELP Workshop.
Attendance at an International Workshop, especially one at which Professor Feuerstein is in attendance, provides invaluable insight into the scope of Instrumental Enrichment while also providing contact with practitioners and Trainers from all over the world. (For Trainers, this contact can be delayed until Trainer's II, which is only offered by ICELP, but earlier attendance is recommended when possible.)
  4. Although it is not a requirement for becoming a Trainer for IE, we feel that training to administer the Learning Propensity Assessment Device (LPAD) is an invaluable asset to any IE Trainer.

Our Theoretical Base

Professor Reuven Feuerstein's programs are based on two very important theoretical principles – Structural Cognitive Modifiability and Mediated Learning Experience. For an elaboration of these theories, go to the ICELP web site at www.icelp.org.
